Our Story
Johnsson OSL has been crafting pipes since 2004.
He was trained in Italy by pipe master Bertram Safferling in 2007. He has crafted hundreds of pipes to date. The vast collection of Johnsson’s work, can be viewed by fans worldwide at link www.johnssonpipes.com. He is a member of the Malaysian Handicraft Corporation and has regularly participated in exhibitions in many countries including Germany, United Kingdom, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
Every Johnsson OSL pipe is carved by hand from quality imported briar wood. These imported woods came from Algeria, Greece and other Mediterranean countries. Johnsson has personally and carefully selected each piece for carving. The only part of the pipe that is not hand carved is the main chamber, which is machined to form a precise bowl.Every pipe is unique and has an artistic story to tell. Johnsson OSL draws inspiration from life experiences, his loved ones or from the customers themselves. In fact, Johnsson often prefers having the customer in the workshop with him while he designs. He is passionately inclined to have them to be a part of the creative process for a pipe that will truly be imbued with a part of their personality.
Every completed masterpiece bears the JohnssonOSL brand name to honor his inspired creation. Once the pipe is carved into shape, it is highlighted with a briar dot and encased in a thick pouch that sits within an understated wooden box to protect it from weathering and scratching. His pipes are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship. Modification and mouth piece replacement are available with minimum charges.He is truly passionate about the creative process. It is essential for him that the pipe is made to suit the owner, like a natural extension of the arm. Johnsson OSL is truly an artist. Very often he is commissioned to carve one-of-a- kind pipe by many of his clients. At the age at 41, Johnsson has gained extensive pipe carving skill of which he continues to fine tune and seek perfection. He aspires to be a true master in the trade.
